Supercritical Pilot Plants

The co-operation during the latest 10 years with Iberfluid Instruments has bourn its fruit in the technology development field necessary for agreeable works under supercritical conditions.

The experience of PID Eng&Tech company includes:

  • Supercritical Extraction (SCE) with CO2, carbon dioxide, mainly for extraction of desired or undesired substances in a compound.
  • Supercritical Water Oxidation (SCWO), mainly for destruction (hydrolysis and oxidation) of organic compounds of sewage, wastewater, etc.

Currently PID Eng&Tech is working on reactor systems, generation of micro- and nano-particles, aerogeles and simulating moving bed (SMB).

The supercritical fluid technology area has been developed by the staff of PID Eng&Tech for more than 10 years and comprises plants of various sizes, working either discontinuously for extraction of solid or liquid feed stocks or continuously for liquid fractionation in multistage columns. All these pilot plants are in trouble-free operation in several research centres and these applications are fully automated and are managed by computer.

PID Eng&Tech manufactures 4 basic models of pilot plants for SCE:

You can obtain more detailed information clicking on data-sheet or technical features.

SFF Pilot Plant SFF pilot plant

SFF – Extraction of solid samples in a closed vessel within three steps of separation, two of them pressurized.

CFF – Extraction of liquid samples in a three-stage counter-current column with three steps of separation, two of them pressurized.

CFF Pilot Plant CFF pilot plant
CSFF Pilot Plant CSFF pilot plant

CSFF – Extraction of solid samples and/or liquid samples in a three-stage counter-current column, within three steps of separation. A by-pass allows using the pilot plant also for the extraction of solid samples.

SAFF – Supercritical extraction pilot plant for solid samples with two vessels (one for production).

These automated processes, managed by computer, have the following features: service pressure of 360 bars, temperature 90ºC, 4 L/h of CO2 flow rate, 0,5L/h of liquid co-solvent, easy and safe operation for a non-experienced operator.
