Fuel Cells

PID Eng&Tech has been working since 1992 in the design and construction of pilot plant control for fuel cells.

PID Eng&Tech company’s control systems for fuel cells include: temperature control, gases supply and humidity system control, high precision pressure control and data acquisition system for temperatures, differential voltages, total voltage and intensity of the cell. The workstations are designed for monocells and stacks, as well as polymeric or fused carbonates.

PID Eng&Tech's computerized pilot plant supplies gases (by MFC’s) and controls the humidity in the system, the temperature, and the pressure in both chambers (anode and cathode). It is very important that the pressure control is performed with precision (about ± 0,01 bar). This implies that the cells should never fail due to differential pressure variations. A specific peculiarity of fused carbonates cells is a new device which closes the cell by means of pneumatic pressure thus making secure the cell integrity. Process@® software provides a user-friendly interface to modify process configuration and automate the system.

A standard configuration of a workshop station is:

  • 4 mass flow controllers for gas flow control and measure
  • 2 saturators
  • 2 condensers (electric cooling)
  • 2 pressure controllers based on servocontrolled microregulation valve (patent pending)
  • 8 data acquisition for temperature
  • 6 data acquisition for cell voltages (isolated differential)
  • 2 data acquisition for total voltage and intensity
  • 1 computer and Process@® software, Ethernet remote control
